Recorded during the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, this album sports guest appearances by De Meisjes bandmates Theun Supheert (drums) and Christof Bauwens (guitar), as well as cellist Mascha van Nieuwkerk, and Dutch jazz greats Joost Buis (trombone), Hermine Deurloo (chromatic harmonica) and Tom Beek (saxophone).
In 2016 Auke travelled the USA, a long roadtrip resulting in his Bob den Uyl Award winning travel book Motel Songs, which was accompanied by this album, containing songs written on the road, and recorded solo in motel and hotel rooms somewhere between Philadelphia and San Francisco.
Auke's debut album, under the nom de guerre Sponsored by Prozac. A companion piece to his Dutch novel Wolfskleren. Recorded with the help of Theun Supheert, Christof Bauwens and Hans Hulst, who would later complete the line-up of De Meisjes. With guest vocals by Flemish singer Sarah Meuleman.
The first single off A Most Present Absence is 'Burning Across The River'. The video was shot in the austere Hinterland of Norway and produced by Young Guns Media.
